Whereas the ideas come rushing to the mind of the Palestinian boy “Salah Dajani” about the settlers domination of the land of his forefathers and their control of his family’s big house, construction of cities over these lands, in addition to the conflicts arising as a result.
The author in his novel relied on historical documents taken from the Israeli archive, and when he represents the boy Salah imagining that settlers will construct three towers in the place of his family house, we find today that there are really three towers located in eastern Tel Aviv known as “Azrieli towers”, this indicates that the author implicitly confesses in his novel that the land is originally for Palestinians and that Israelis have occupied it.
Hilu uses the original names of the places, which of course used to be Arabic names before being occupied and renamed with Hebrew ones to hide their original past.
Thus as Hilu comes to remove the ambiguity surrounding these names and to remind everybody that the land is Palestinian and its name is an Arabic one and that occupation has changed it into an Israeli land with new Hebrew names.
The novel gives an impression that the writer regards the settlement in the Palestinian lands as a colonial operation differs nothing from any other.
Alon Hilu regards himself as one of the group of new writers who undertake the responsibility of rewriting the Zionist actions in Palestine and correct its legends; Hilu sees the Israeli grows up and learns that Palestine, prior the Zionists’ entry, was a desert and that the immigrants are the ones who brought life and prosperity to the small number of Arabs whose number started to increase after Jews worked on affording job opportunities, and that Israelis have bought the land from the Palestinian.
Hilu pointed out here that there will be no solution if we neglect the psychological side of the conflict, stating that Israelis have to know why Palestinians are insisting on the right of return.
Hilu also describes the Israel situation today as a train with full speed in the opposite direction, thus if Israeli won’t confess the crimes and massacres the committed against Palestinians, then Israel will crush.
